Visalia Rotary Community Foundation Announces 2017 grants


The VRCF will donate $97,500 to six local organizations, bringing the total awarded to $1.271 million since the Foundation was formed in 1990.


The recipient organizations  and the purpose of each grant:


The Open Arms House: $30,000 for the hospice care facility to be named in the honor of Ruth Wood


Visalia Emergency Aid Concil:  $25,000 for a new food pantry, family resource center adn education center.


Family Services of Tulare County:  $20,000 to replace the roof on Karen's House, a domestic violence shelter.


Friends of the Fox Theater:  $10,000 to assist with upgrades tot he house audio system.


Urban Tree Foundation:  $7,500 to support additions at Miki City Park.


Visalia Education Foundation:  $5,000 to support the Coats for Kids Project.


Members of the Grant Committee who reviewed the applications are Larry Benevento, Tony Correia, Marvin Hansen, Peter Golombek, Gary Paden, Donn Ritter, Paul Sonier and Steve Chrisman.  The execuitive director of the Foundation is Eric Shannon.


"Each year we strive to address a spectrnm of community needs," Benevento said. "This year we are helping people to die with dignity, supporting the historic Fox Theater which is hugely important to our downtown, and helping children. The generous donors to the Rotary Foundation are making a significant difference in the lives of people in our own community."
